Travel

There are two airports in the Washington, D.C. area which we suggest for travel: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (closest to the workshop) and the Washington Dulles International Airport (farther from the workshop but may still be convenient for some itineraries). We do not recommend traveling to Baltimore Washington International Airport.

Below are directions to the conference hotel from each airport. Also below is a map of the local area.

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

The easiest way to get from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to the Westin Arlington Gateway Conference Hotel is to take the Metrorail. Take the blue line from National Airport Metro Station towards Largo Town Center Metro Station. Change trains at Rosslyn Metro Center. Then, take the orange line from Rosslyn Metro Center towards Vienna. Exit at the Ballston Metro Station (this will not cost much more than $3 depending on the time of day). From the Ballston Metro Station, exit the station, turn left (west) on Fairfax Drive, and walk three blocks to the Holiday Inn Arlington at Ballston at 4610 North Fairfax Drive. Alternatively, the hotel has a complimentary hotel shuttle available. Call (703) 243-9800 when you've reached the metro station and are ready to be picked up.

From Washington Dulles International Airport

It should be noted that Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located in the far western suburbs of Washington, D.C., and hence is not directly connected to the Metrorail. There are two main options for getting to the conference hotel from this airport:

Option 1

The cheapest option (requiring more time) is to first take the Washington Flyer from Washington Dulles International Airport to the Metro West Falls Church Station (which typically takes 20-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions and costs $10 one-way or $18 round-trip). Then, take the orange line metrorail from the West Falls Church Metro Station towards New Carrollton arriving at the Ballston MU Metro Station (this part of the trip will take approximately 7 minutes and will cost less than $3).

Option 2

The more expensive option (requiring less time) is to take a taxi from Washington Dulles International Airport to the Holiday Inn Arlington at Ballston at 4610 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA.
